VholdR debuts first wearable 1080p camcorder

September 24, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

When consumers are looking for the best buy on cameras, they often need to use their head. But a new camcorder from VholdR puts a whole new spin on that idea with their latest wearable camera that mounts on a person’s head.

Much like many other top rated digital cameras, the VholdR shoots at resolutions up to 1080p. But the difference is that this video camera can be strapped to a helmet or a user’s head, making it the first wearable HD camera that shoots in 1080p for maximum quality. This could be a perfect option for people who are into extreme sports like skydiving, rock climbing or bungee jumping who want to give viewers a first-hand view of what it’s like to brave the elements and take risks.

You can record up to eight hours of footage onto removable micro SD memory cards. The cameras will begin shipping in mid-October and are expected to retail for $329 for the full 1080p version.

Types of pressure measurements

Depending on your industry and need, there is probably a pressure sensor designed exactly for what you are looking to do. By some estimates, there are more than 50 different types of pressure transducer technologies, each designed for different, specialized tasks. Typically, pressure sensors can be divided into five categories based on the type of pressure they measure:

Absolute pressure sensor: measures pressure relative to a perfect vacuum pressure of 0 PSI (air pressure at sea level is around 14.7 PSI).

Gauge pressure sensor: a pressure transmitter that measures the pressure relative to the atmospheric pressure. A tire air pressure gauge is one example.

Sealed pressure sensor: similar to a gauge pressure sensor, except that it is manufactured to read the pressure relative to a set air pressure (regardless of the outside air pressure).

Vacuum pressure sensor: designed to measure pressures that are less than the external atmospheric pressure.

Differential pressure sensor: measures differences in pressures in two units, or the flow of pressure across different areas. Many custom pressure transducer items are created to measure differential pressures.

When a New Laptop Lacks a Standard Serial Port

The thrill of having a sleek new laptop can quickly change to regret when a disappointed owner realizes that the new computer lacks a standard serial port. There is an easy solution though! The user can purchase a serial card that will provide a standard DB9 serial port for nearly any laptop. (As with all electronic products, before making a purchase, confirm with the manufacturer to be sure the product will work with your laptop.) An example of this type of card is the PCMCIA Serial Card. Most laptops today come with a USB Serial Port, but there is no set solution to connect a CNC machine via a laptop using this USB technology. Ideally, users need a USB Serial adapter that works under Windows 2000 and XP.

An ideal solution is using a RS-232 serial PCMCIA card. These can work with any laptop to add additional ports for various portable systems. They function like standard COM ports and can be left in the computer at all times. The small size and the fact that the card itself can be left inside the computer at all times is convenient and practical for use with portable systems. To connect a laptop to any CNC, purchase a PCMCIA card along with an RS232 extension cable. Many users wonder how an RS232 connector can be soldered to an USB extension cable—but the differences in design between RS232 and USB technologies don’t yet allow for this.

Portable Gaming Desktops

If you’re a serious gamer who loves spending hours playing the latest releases, purchasing a gaming PC is a necessity.  For the best gameplay experience, it’s essential to have the best hardware. Otherwise, you won’t be able to enjoy everything that the game has to offer (or you might not be able to play it at all!)

For a long time, desktops were the standard for gaming computers.  In recent years, gaming laptops have become more and more popular as laptop technology caught up to that of desktops. Both types have their advantages and disadvantages, and it can be difficult when you don’t want to compromise on either power or portability.

Luckily, many custom gaming PC companies have taken note of this and are starting to offer a third option: the portable desktop. Still a relative newcomer to market, this could end up being the true future of gaming computers.
